CareerOverview.com was a career and college-information site generated from data. Northwestern's InfoLab built it, before large language models: a large site produced from structured sources such as the Bureau of Labor Statistics, covering the occupations, what they pay, what they require, and the schools and degree programs that lead to them. It was an early step toward what became Narrative Science.
The generated pages sat on crossing directories: nineteen career families, forty-odd industries, every state, and degree programs by level, category, and subject. A three-step degree finder at the top and bottom of the home page led to matching programs.
I worked on it with the InfoLab team.
